Winter weather in North Texas can be unpredictable. When temperatures fall below freezing, it’s important to follow the four “P’s” of winter weather safety.
- People: Keep your family warm and check in on anyone you know that may be vulnerable in winter conditions. Prepare for power outages and minimize time outdoors.
- Pipes: Slowly drip water from indoor faucets to prevent pipes from freezing and open the cabinets underneath faucets to allow heat to circulate around the pipes. Disconnect garden hoses from outdoor faucets and cover outdoor pipes and spigots. Turn off automatic sprinkler systems.
- Pets: Keep pets warm, dry and indoors as much as possible. Ensure their food and water doesn’t freeze. Limit outside time and keep them bundled up.
- Plants: For plants that are vulnerable to colder weather, bring them indoors. Cover outdoor plants before the cold weather sets in.
If your pipes freeze or burst, promptly call the City of Euless Public Works to have the water turned off at the meter to avoid a potential issue when the pipes thaw. For assistance during normal business hours, call 817-685-1580. For after-hours assistance, contact non-emergency dispatch at 817-685-1526.
