Genealogy - Ancestry Plus
AncestryPlus provides access to more than 1.2 billion names, more than 3,000 databases, primary source documents and images and a variety of genealogical research features - with new databases added daily.
Databases
AncestryPlus includes Gale's Passenger & Immigration Lists Index and, for the first time, digital images of the census records from the U.S. Federal Census between the years 1790 and 1920.
Passenger and Immigration Lists Index is one of the first titles from the Gale collection to enhance the AncestryPlus database. These lists contain more than 2.8 million immigration, passenger and naturalization records of individuals that came to the U.S. and Canada between the 16th and mid-20th centuries. Information included consists of the name and age of the immigrant, year and place of arrival, naturalization, or records indicating person indexed is an immigrant and names of all listed family members.
Federal Census 1790 to 1920 is our nation's primary record to document the growth of our population. Over the years the census expanded from just head of household to include all names of household members (starting 1850), to slave schedules, education level of the household, income/occupation of household members, birthplace, health history and ethnic background. The database shows the original census, and has a name index for easy searching.
Searching
AncestryPlus offers a variety of ways to search for information.
Global-Enter a first and last name in the search box on the main (default) screen and click "Search." This searches through all of the AncestryPlus databases. Users can then select specific databases to access the records.
Record Type-The main (default) screen is organized primarily by record type. Record type include the following: census, vital and church; military; biography and history; court, land and probate; reference; immigration; directories; periodicals and newspapers; and compiled genealogies.
Locale-Users may select databases by geographic location. Two drop-down menus allow researchers to narrow their search by country or state.
Advanced-Advanced searches allow users to select the type of database they wish to search, to perform soundex (sound alike) searches, specify date ranges and search proximity.
Each search returns any number of data sources and/or original documents matching your search. AncestryPlus organizes results by database, data source and relevance. All original documents contained within the database are digitally enhanced and viewable in full-text.
