Job Summary:
Assists Public Works Engineering in the performance of office and field related work in connection with the investigation, development, design and construction of a wide variety of public works and private development civil, traffic and transportation engineering projects. Assists in the application and implementation of the City's storm water management program.
Job Scope:
Job involves working with the Public Works engineering staff in initial engineering plan review, storm water management, environmental issues, plan preparation, engineering plan file management and customer assistance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have experience in reading and interpreting specifications, codes and technical manuals. Must have experience in the preparation of paving, grading, and drainage plans. Prefer a minimum of two (2) years municipal experience in reviewing and interpreting engineering construction plans. Must be competent in the operation and utilization of computers and computer software. Must be proficient in the use of the latest version of AutoCad to design paving, drainage, water and sewer plans. Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Office Power Point and other Microsoft Office software. Capable of lifting up to 35 pounds. Must have or be able to obtain a Texas driver's license.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides initial review of site plans, subdivision plats, and engineering construction plans. Maintains engineering plan files and digital file system, maintain inventory of traffic signals and traffic signs. Performs field investigations, requests, suggestions and complaints from city staff, city officials, and citizens under the direction of the Director of Public Works or City Engineer. Prepares drawings and other materials, reviews erosion control plans and storm water pollution prevention plans. Assists in the implementation of environmental and other regulations and mandates. Prepares drawings and other materials for City Council and other public meetings. Assists in the development, implementation, administration and enforcement of NPDES Storm water management program. Performs special assignments as required. Coordinates with Oncor for the installation and maintenance of street lights. Assists the public in securing copies of engineering plans.
