Job Summary:
Responsible for welcoming and checking-in guests, inspecting, maintaining and cleaning equipment, conducts basic fitness orientations and explains fitness programs and activities, assists guests with how to properly use the fitness equipment, performs opening and closing duties, reporting and resolving complaints, and ensuring rules and regulations are enforced.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Monitors all activities of the fitness center.
  • Provides patrons information about fitness programs
  • Admits members and guests into fitness center in accordance with the "Membership Policy"; checks proof of membership of each person seeking to use facility, and verifies memberships are current and valid.
  • Inspects fitness equipment daily; documents and reports malfunctioning equipment to Recreation Center Supervisor. May perform minor equipment repairs in certain instances.
  • Cleans and maintains fitness equipment, fitness center and all related equipment including, but not limited to floors, windows, doors, tvs, front desk, mirrors, towels, re-fills sanitary spray bottles, etc.
  • Assists in resolving participant complaints by recording complaints and reporting them to Recreation Center Supervisor.
  • Completes facility reports, incident reports, and other required reports in accordance with policy guidelines.
  • Stands for extended periods of time while performing daily duties such as checking-in patrons, conducting routine maintenance on equipment and/or facility, etc., bends and walks while distributing supplies, demonstrating equipment, performing cleaning duties, and re-racking weights.
  • Must maintain regular attendance.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • College work in the areas of Kinesiology or Physical Education preferred.
  • Personal Trainer Certification preferred.
  • Six months customer service experience.
  • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in public/employee relations and problem solving.
  • Learns recreation policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Comprehends and follows written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be able to work varied schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to operate and train on the proper use of all fitness center equipment.
  • May drive city vehicle including van and trucks on occasion.
  • Operates computer, printer, copy machine, telephones, etc.
