Dear Citizens,
What a busy summer we’ve had with many activities both in our cool buildings and outside in our warm sunshine.
The many volunteers that helped with our Euless Revitalization program in June during two very hot days never complained and did such a fantastic job helping others with a happy smile. We have so much to be thankful for in our city and volunteers are number one. Our volunteers consisted of citizens, church members, fire and police academies, businesses, restaurants, city staff members and even those from other cities. We totaled over 400 volunteers for two days. It’s easy to see why Euless was selected as the Best Small City in Texas to Raise Your Kids as well as one of the Best Places to Live.
And while we are bragging, we want you to know Euless, Bedford and Hurst won the Regional Cooperation Award from the North Central Texas Council of Governments for assisting with the transportation needs of our citizens with HEB Transit. This is the fourth time Euless has won this most prestigious award.
The United States Conference of Mayors recognized the Euless Revitalization program as a finalist at their national conference. You may remember Euless won the City Livability Award two years ago with our Compost-ology program.
The library has been a place of cool activities with plenty to do for all ages. The summer concerts are free and lots of you are enjoying them. Participation in the Summer Reading Club has increased to over 800 this summer, not including adults. There are many continuing programs for you to enjoy.
Our parks are such a joy to so many citizens, but then there are some who find joy in vandalism. We suffer over $25,000 in damages to our parks each summer. Now there is a way for citizens to help by calling Crime Stoppers and reporting the crime if you know who committed the vandalism. All calls are anonymous and many times there is a monetary reward.
The Texas Star Golf and Conference Centre has been completely remodeled with additional space in the Conference Centre and the Raven’s Grill. A lovely new enclosed porch has been added along with the two outside porches. There are new additions to the menu and the Sunday brunch continues to be a favorite meeting place for friends.
The new art work will be in place in late August and will continue with the historical additions already at the Texas Star. This statue will be a bronze work showing three Indians from different tribes signing the peace treaty while Sam Houston is watching. The artist is Cindy Burleson from Austin. Cindy has created all of the bronzes in the city.
Do read all the articles in the Euless Today as there are so many activities listed for all ages and some need early registration. While the city staff and Council are closely watching our budgets, we will still provide the services our citizens have come to enjoy.
We continue to Build a Better Euless for our citizens today and tomorrow. We are a FabEuless city because of our volunteers!
