Dear Citizens,

Mayor Saleh

The good ole summertime is half way through and before we know it school will begin. In the meantime, please enjoy all the wonderful amenities Euless has to offer.

Our May elections returned Leon Hogg to our city council. Donna Micken was elected for her first term and we welcome Donna to our council. Please get to know Donna by reading the article inside this newsletter.

Congratulations to Mary Sanchez on her selection as the 911 Telecommunicator of the Year and to Debbie Torrez for her selection as the 911 International Trainer of the Year. Officer Tamara Barnes has been selected for the Silent Hero Award. These three members of the Euless staff are very special for the diligent work they do daily. And, read all about the Police Awards for the year. Congratulations to each and every honoree.

Have you seen all the improvements to our library? The new carpeting throughout the building, the new study rooms, new furniture and the new Genealogy/Historical room are all so beautiful. Our library continues to be a shining star in our city and throughout our community.

Besides all the new renovations, the library has had many interesting programs and the summer reading program has had more readers than ever. The Euless Library Foundation is busy taking orders for the new art piece for the library. Citizens can select a tile as their gift to the art piece and have your name inscribed and there are several sizes to choose from.

The new Dog Park opened in early May and is much appreciated by both the dogs and owners and much used! All parks have offered a variety of venues this summer and it's amazing to see how many citizens from other communities come to enjoy our parks. The flowers along the byways truly add to the beauty of our city. The Parks department does such a good job especially in this hot summer weather.

The Texas Star Conference Centre is being renovated and will be such a fine addition to the current facility. The construction is on time and hopefully will be completed in early 2009. Besides the addition there will be renovations throughout the entire facility. During the construction all facilities are open and busy. The Raven's Grill is a great place to eat especially for Sunday brunch. The golf course remains one of the best courses around the county. There are tournaments almost daily, but still room for other golfers to play. Check the web site for specials throughout the summer.

It's time again to nominate citizens for the Volunteers of the Year. We need nominees for Student Volunteer, Business Volunteer, Outstanding Volunteer and Lifetime Volunteer. Please see page 11 to submit your nomination.

Also, it is time to consider serving on the Boards and Commissions. There are several vacancies and many opportunities to serve. Applications are available in the City Secretary's office. Applicants will be interviewed by the City Council members before selections are made. New members will take office in January, but have the opportunity to learn more of their committee work before then.

The Citizen's Fire Academy and Citizen's Police Academy are accepting applications for the next session. Classes begin in August and meet every Thursday night for twelve weeks. Call now for your application as the classes fill up fast.

The City Council and city staff are busy preparing the budget for the next year. All budgets are discussed and voted upon at the City Council meetings. There will be public hearings and any citizen may come and ask questions and learn more about the budget process. This process takes place in September and must be finalized by the first of October. Please know that all Council meetings are open to the public and take place on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.

Thank you to all the wonderful VOLUNTEERS that have shared their time and talents for our summer activities. You are special and make Euless even more special! We continue to BUILD A BETTER TOMORROW TOGETHER.
