Dear Citizens,
Spring has finally come to Euless just in time for our Arbor Daze celebration. What a crazy winter season with rain, snow, sleet, hot and cold weather…. I guess the old adage of "If you live in Texas just wait a moment and the weather will change." We do enjoy lots of weather changes in Texas and that adds to the joy of living here.
With the springtime we hope you have enjoyed the amenities of our beautiful parks. We have added new walking trails, new park benches and lots of new plantings not only in the parks but also along the streets and city hall campus.
Our library is in the process of being renovated with additional space and new carpeting. The library is such an active place for citizens of all ages and we hope you take advantage of the many offerings. Our staff is quite knowledgeable and can assist you with your needs. There are several classes offered and most of them are free. All the concerts are so special and all free. Please read all about the many activities.
The Euless Library Foundation has decided on its newest art project for the library. It will be a beautiful wall tile about six feet by eight feet depicting the history of Euless. The Euless Historical Committee will join with the Foundation in selecting the historical sites to be depicted. Tiles may be purchased by any citizen and the prices vary from $25 to $900 depending on the size selected.
The library has one tile of the Log Cabin already and is on view for all to see. This is such a unique piece of art and all citizens can support the art and have your family name on the tile.
We congratulate our Employee of the Year, Cary Stevenson. He is truly a caring Euless employee. He has worked for our city for twenty five years and never missed a day of work. We are so proud of him.
We are sending many good wishes to our retiring Fire Chief Lee Koontz and thanks for his many years of service to our city. Please read all about the many innovations Chief Koontz has initiated in our Fire Department. He had truly been a leader not only in our city but in our community and our state. His lovely wife Lark, has added so much joy to our many celebrations representing "Sparky" the Dalmatian fire dog. Thanks Chief and Sparky!
We also congratulate the Fire personnel for the awards they received at the Fire Awards Banquet. They are listed inside the magazine and each award is so special to the firefighters and to our city. Many thanks from all our citizens to each of you. A special honor at the ceremony was given by our Medical Director Dr. Yamada to our "911 Response Team." How fortunate we are to have such dedicated members on our team! Congratulations to all.
Our next park in the city will be the Dog Park. The Park will be located inside the Villages of Bear Creek Park and there will be a divided area for large dogs and small dogs. We hope you will read all the rules of behavior for the dogs before you visit the park and we hope we have added all the amenities you have requested.
Our Texas Star Golf Course continues to win accolades from the golf world and we so appreciate our staff for making it one of the very top municipal courses in the Metroplex. We are undergoing a complete renovation of the Texas Star Conference Centre. You will see a lot of construction when you visit but the Texas Star will remain open during the construction and you may hear a hammer or two. It will be completed in about eight months and then be able to accommodate much larger crowds as well as many smaller groups. After ten years it needed some tender loving care as well as more room for our clients.
Each spring we have municipal elections as well as school board elections. We are fortunate in Texas to have early voting for two weeks prior to Election Day. The times and schedules are listed inside and early voting will take place in the Euless library. On Election Day, May 10, 2008, there will be voting in the Euless Library as well as Bear Creek Elementary School. You may vote for city council positions and school board positions.
As you read through the EULESS TODAY magazine please note the many activities happening in our city. We need and appreciate all the volunteers that support these activities. We could not do it without our volunteers and volunteers have fun and friendships to share. Won't you become one of our special volunteers?
Do take time to enjoy the interesting spring weather, the beautiful Texas wildflowers and the many activities available to each of our citizens.
