Volunteer Awards Presented for 2007
Euless is very fortunate to have a dedicated, attentive group of citizens in our community. Volunteers assist the City in a variety of ways, often working long hours without pay or recognition for the benefit of Euless. In turn, the City picks one person each year that embodies the very definition of a Volunteer to celebrate the dedication and service of these outstanding people and the difference they have made in the community.
The Volunteer of the Year Award for 2007 has been awarded to
Barney Snitz. Fitting the true definition of a volunteer, he
spends his time helping out a variety of organizations and
making Euless a better place to live. He has assisted with nearly
every special event the city hosts from the Texas Trash Off to
Arbor Daze to the Bicycle Rodeo to the Halloween Festival. In
addition, he sits on the Library Board, Crime Control and
Prevention Board and is a member of the Citizens Police and
Fire Academy Alumni Associations, He is a graduate of the
Community Emergency Readiness Team and serves on the
Euless Local Law Enforcement
Advisor Board, Citizens on
Patrol and the Fire REHAB Unit.
In his spare time he is a
volunteer teacher in the Tarrant
County College Senior
Education Program for over ten
years; he is a DFW Airport
Ambassador for more than five
years and recently completed
the DFW Airport Civilian Police
Academy. He's also completed the Boston Marathon and spends
time training for other athletic endeavors. We thank him for his
continued dedication, enthusiasm and humility.
The Business of the Year is Stitch 'N Tyme. Owner Julie Watkins began the company out of her home and then expanded to its current location on south Main. Stitch 'N Tyme provides custom embroidery services for both individuals and area businesses. Watkins believes in giving back to the community and is an active volunteer, serving in both the Citizens Police and Fire Academy Alumni Associations. She's lived in Euless over thirty years and enjoys the citizens of Euless most.
The Youth of the Year was presented to Brittini Montalvo. Her first
volunteering experience
was the 2005 Bicycle
Rodeo. She did a
fabulous job that day and
continued to quickly rise
to the top of what
Volunteer Coordinator
Jerry Poteet calls his "top
echelon volunteers." She
volunteered her time for the Parks and Community
Services department during her junior and senior years
of high school. Poteet commented, "Brittini is a special
volunteer. We are very lucky to have a volunteer like
her. She is second to none."
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to a person or
persons in Euless that have given of their time and
efforts to the City of Euless throughout their lives. This
year, the Lifetime Achievement Award has been
presented to Robert and Iva Nail. The Nails are longtime
residents of Euless. Robert was the first and longest
serving Postmaster for Euless, dedicating 31 years to the
postal service. The Euless Post Office opened in 1949
inside of the Fuller Brothers and Nail Grocery and
Mercantile on the southeast corner of State Highway
183 (now SH 10) and
Main Street. At the
time a postage stamp
was .03¢ and a post
card was .01¢. He was
also one of the
original members of
the Euless Volunteer Fire Department for Euless. He was awarded a
certificate for meritorious service in 1958 and
became Captain in 1959. Iva Fuller Nail also
worked in the post office and grew up in the
original Fuller House now located in historic
Heritage Park. Robert and Iva were married in
front of the parlor fireplace in 1952. On their
50th wedding anniversary, the Nails renewed
their vows in front of that same fireplace in the
newly renovated house. Both are active on the
Euless Historical Preservation Committee and
the First United Methodist Church. They have
been married 55 years.
Our congratulations go out to all of this year's winners. Thank you for your time and energy that you spend to help make Euless great!
