Greetings from the Mayor
Now that the weather is cooling down, we hope you are able to get out of your air conditioned homes and participate in the many activities available in our parks and library. We are nearing the Holiday season and we look forward to our Christmas Parade and the Heritage Park celebration, along with many other events. We are happy to announce the graduation of Class 9 of the Citizens Fire Academy, Class 21 of the Citizens Police Academy and Class 1 of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Thanks to all of our citizens for participating and our staff for leading and teaching. Our academies are so active and supportive of the fire and police departments and the CERT graduates will be our support team if an occurrence happens in our city. If you are interested in participating and learning more about your city, please call either the fire or police departments to register. The new fire station on South Main Street is open with improvements for our fire personnel. Many of you came out for the grand opening following Fire Prevention week. Thank you for bringing so many children as well. There is an interesting article written by Weldon Cannon about the history of the land where the new fire station is located. Mr. Cannon is truly our local historian and serves on the Historical Preservation Committee and is a guest speaker at many historical conferences. Many, many thanks to those of you who trimmed your trees that were hanging in the street right of ways! That is a volunteer effort much appreciated. Did you know a fire engine costs almost a million dollars? The city has been putting aside monies for the past four years to purchase a new fire engine and we expect it to be delivered sometime in December. Besides being a safety issue, overhanging trees and shrubs do damage to the fire engines and ambulances that require additional dollars to repair. Again, our thanks. Our volunteer Boards and Commission members are listed inside this issue of Euless Today. These members give of their time and talents and serve extra hours on city activities. We truly appreciate their service to our city. And, our Volunteers of the Year are listed inside this issue. Billy Owens is the Volunteer of the Year, Boyce and Bill Byers were selected for their Lifetime Achievements and North Main Bar-be-que was selected as the Business of the Year. Honorable Mentions go to Chick-Fil-a, Starbucks and Dr. Gayla Maas. Do read about all their services to our city. Congratulations to all.
