Dear Earl:

I've been asked to trim my trees to 14 feet above the street in order for the Fire Department to avoid damage to their trucks. What am I supposed to do with the limbs?

Limbless in Euless

Dear Limbless:

Euless residents may bundle limbs and place them at the moat along with their other trash or recycling by 7 a.m. on your regular service days at no additional charge. The bundles must be tied together, less than 4 feet in length and weigh less than 50 pounds.

If you are unable to trim your limbs to these guidelines, Allied Waste Services (formerly Trinity) will haul off large quantities of brush for $10 per 5 cubic yards or a little more than the size of a pickup truck load.

Yard trimmings alone make up over 15% of residential waste. Earl encourages residents to compost smaller items or rent a wood chipper for a short period of time to keep this waste from filling up our landfills. Another alternative is delivering your brush to Silver Creek Materials Recycling and Compost. They will accept most organic wastes for a small fee and will recycle it into compost.

Certain landfills are open to Euless residents, but the cost is high. Irving and Arlington landfills are open to their residents only. Contact information for landfills that will accept from Euless residents is listed below.
